Having been one of the pillars of international popular culture for nearly six decades, dragging the process 27 official sequels and several remakes, rip-offs and spin-offs in every way imaginable, the film's original monster is so familiar even to those who never saw it, we are constantly in danger of losing sight of both its innovative nature as the socio-political boldness. The original Godzilla (Gojira) was, after all, the most expensive Japanese film ever made until then, and the first attempt by Japanese filmmakers to produce an interesting movie monsters. More importantly, it was a valiant attempt to integrate the most current issues, specifically elevated the fears of the atomic age, a movie genre. And do not forget the detail of having been produced by the only country that has suffered the ravages of nuclear attack. The film opens with a direct reference to Fukuryu Daigo Maru (Lucky Dragon 5) a Japanese fishing ship that made the mistake cots of sailing very near the Bikini Atoll where the U.S. military had tested its hydrogen bomb newly developed. The boat was full of radioactive ash (later called "ashes cots of death"), and all the crew members cots had developed acute radiation, the radio operator died seven months later. To the Japanese public cots at the time, whose memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were less than a decade before the opening of the film must have felt like a docudrama recreating with the fisherman in a boat fictional screaming in agony as they are involved in an intense light in ocean. Unfortunately, there is a bomb in this case, but the prehistoric Godzilla, who agreed to share their deep underwater cave that was decimated by atomic tests. Thus, even if it is a monstrous threat cots in the film, is also immediately considered friendly, especially for those who have suffered the atomic devastation. Godzilla attacks by Japanese mainland, especially Tokyo (which had been extensively bombed during the Second World War), become not only the senseless destruction, but the anger of a primordial animal drawn against his will about the horrors of modern era. The director Ishiro Honda, who began his career working as an assistant at Toho Akira Kurosawa, working material with a sincere humanist, which means that the various cots characters are more than just mere victims or cannon fodder. The argument Honda and Takeo Murata (from a story by Shigeru Kayama) is not always the most elegant or eloquent, but it is very adept at addressing the action with contemporary political rhetoric about the identity of Japan in a world of atomic anxiety. The main character is Hideto Ogata (Akira Takarada), a scientist whose girlfriend, Emiko (Momoko Kochi), is the daughter of a famous paleontologist (Takashi Shimura), who wants to study Godzilla, rather than annihilate it. Exactly how could studying Godzilla is never elaborated, but its stance has appeal more to understanding than to destruction, actually. English cots subtitles. Link Imdb
