Anne van de Brink is a specialist in geriatric medicine iea in the Waal Arch. She has since its founding in 1996, involved in the special section for people with somatic and psychiatric problems: the somatic + department. Commissioned by the Waal Bow and under the guidance of the University of Nijmegen she is doing doctoral research on gerontopsychiatrie. Anne says.
"Older people who have physical and mental health problems iea are a special iea target group, who require specialized care. I believe that nursing homes these people really something good to offer. Only to find out what care may be of added value and to get organized this concern, it is essential to find out what these people need. I found out that there really is no specific research in this area. "Research design
"In my research, the MAPPING study (Patient With Both Mental And Physical Problemsresiding in Dutch nursing homes) I bring the target (ie, people with mental and physical problems) and the needs of the target map. I hereby focuses on three aspects, namely: to describe the characteristics of the demand for care and the quality of life of the target. iea For this run I have conversations with people who have just recorded a double-care unit in a nursing home, people who stay there a little longer and coordinating nurses. In order to make good decisions about the characteristics, care needs and quality of life, I will be questioning about 150 people in total. I started in 2011 with my research and I'm doing this two days a week in addition to my work as a doctor. iea I expect to complete the study in 2016. "Further research interventions
"My research is very basic, descriptive study. This is necessary in order to further iea therefrom of work on follow-up study for possible interventions. So ways to really improve care for this group of people. The actual care, but also constraints as good training iea and fees. "
"The group of people with mental and physical problems will only get bigger and older. People with psychiatric illness have in fact more at risk of physical problems. Partly because of changes iea in mental health care is this group of people fallen because of their somatic care issues in nursing homes, even before we could look at what these people need. Meanwhile, we have gained a lot of knowledge, but that knowledge must be scientifically substantiated yet. With the data from my research and data from follow-up studies, we can enter into dialogue with in education, politics iea and health insurers to create the right conditions " Research among people with Korsakov:.
